Avaya Named Nemertes PilotHouse Top Provider for Enterprise Video Conferencing

– Value and technology boost Avaya to the Top Provider for Video Conferencing for the enterprise, according to research study of 500 IT professionals

– Pricing, licensing clarity, strategic roadmap and actual costs help drive top ranking

– Avaya customers prove to be among the most loyal amidst four vendors

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico, July 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ – Enterprise customers of four different vendors ranked Avaya as the top provider of video conferencing technologies according to industry analyst firm, Nemertes Research. As a result, Avaya has been designated the 2014 Nemertes PilotHouse Top Provider for Video Conferencing for the enterprise. High marks in value and technology helped garner the award which customers weighted as the most important factors in the rating criteria.

Nemertes Research also found that Avaya customers are among the most loyal, with high scores received in the overall solution strategy and future roadmap category. Customers also appreciated the pricing, clarity of licensing and actual costs relative to Avaya’s video conferencing portfolio.

Based on feedback from the customer study and Nemertes’ analysis, the research report recommends that companies include top providers in any evaluation of video conferencing.

The research results from the feedback of 500 IT decision makers using collaboration technologies and was conducted in the Spring 2014 in the U.S.

“The key to this research is that it’s based largely on ratings from those who know best: IT professionals who actually use the products and services. The 2012 acquisition of Radvision improved Avaya’s video conferencing capabilities to the point where it’s delivering an overall better experience to the enterprise than its competitors.”

Robin Gareiss, President, Nemertes Research

“The fast, multi-channel, virtual pace of business today requires powerful collaboration tools that easily fit a mobile lifestyle. Avaya’s video conferencing portfolio has been tested by some pretty tough critics who experience this every day: our own employees who are clocking over 50,000 video conferences each month. It’s especially gratifying to see that sentiment reflected by our customers and to be recognized as the Nemertes Pilothouse Top Provider.”

Gary Barnett, SVP and president, Collaboration, Avaya

Next Generation Network Management

With SaskTel International’s Service and Resource Inventory and Order Management solution, communication service providers can optimize fulfillment processes to leverage networks to their full capacity and keep an edge up on competition.

REGINA, Saskatchewan, April 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ – SaskTel International (SI), a leading-edge communications software and services solution provider, has recently announced the release of a new Service and Resource Inventory and Order Management solution for wireline communications networks. The application comes in response to the elusive pursuit of communication service providers (CSPs) to drive efficiencies, identify cost savings and optimize the delivery of services over their existing networks.

The communications industry is rapidly evolving. Exponential growth in data consumption is the new reality as forecasts project that broadband traffic over fixed networks will increase at a rate of approximately 50%, year over year. As CSPs look to deliver an enhanced quality of service and customer experience to an ever demanding customer base, both their networks and the applications used to manage and maintain service fulfillment must keep pace. Legacy systems cannot optimally handle the new services, devices and increased modernization and complexity of today’s networks.. Robust and scalable applications, such as SI’s new inventory and order management solution, have become a necessity as CSPs look to remain competitive and viable in the future.

SaskTel, a large tier II North American CSP, has already begun implementation of the new solution. “The new market has dictated that CSP’s must transform the way they deliver and manage services,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel’s President and CEO. “In today’s competitive market, those who cannot deliver to customer demand risk losing business to competitors that can”. The new solution enables CSPs to enhance the delivery of their mission critical services over both copper and fiber-based networks. CSPs are empowered to seamlessly manage flow-through provisioning and assignment activity, as well as gain accurate visibility through end-to-end inventories of their networks.

SI’s application suite, including the new inventory and order management application, utilizes the latest Java-based technologies and is built with the expertise that comes with SI’s successful 25+ years of experience delivering solutions to the communications industry. Furthermore, through alignment with industry frameworks, best practices and standards, SI applications enable a proven, service-oriented approach to operations and integration. Standards such as the Telemanagement (TM) Forum Frameworx model play an essential role in defining the business processes, functional areas and integration methods leveraged by SI’s application suite.

For CSPs, this translates into lower operating costs, increased portability, enhanced scalability and simplified integration with other applications. Most of all, the new solution supports the ability to optimize service delivery over the next generation networks of today and the future, enabling CSPs to position themselves ahead of the competition and technology curve. When supplemented with SI’s broader portfolio of fulfillment and assurance operation support system (OSS) software, CSPs can realize new levels of efficiencies and cost reduction while driving an enhanced quality of service and customer experience.

The new solution marks an important stride forward in optimizing the way that CSPs fulfill services in times of increased complexity and customer expectation. Through these times of uncertainty, SI will continue to lead the way in delivering world class applications and solutions that support CSPs through their continued transformation.

About SaskTel International:

SaskTel International (SI) was established in 1986 as a subsidiary of SaskTel, a multi-service communications service provider with over a century of successful operating experience. SI leverages the expertise, industry firsts, lessons-learned, and resources of SaskTel to market leading-edge software solutions and professional services for service providers worldwide.

Petrotechnics & University of Trinidad and Tobago Celebrate the First Graduating Candidates from Integral Hazard Awareness Courses

HOUSTON, 29 October 2013 /PRNewswire/ – Following the successful launch of the strategic partnership between Petrotechnics and the University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT) in late 2012, the partnership has successfully certified its first graduates in the Hazard Identification and Task Risk Assessment courses. The courses were designed to help develop locally supported high quality critical hazard awareness and risk assessment capabilities for the oil and gas workforce in the region.

The initiative prompted by bp Trinidad and Tobago recognised the need for locally provided consistent and ongoing training for its offshore workers as well as to develop local capability in this space. Bp’s strong ongoing connection to both Petrotechnics and UTT offered a powerful self-sustaining business model using Petrotechnics’ world renowned training consultants to deliver its unparalleled ‘train the trainer’ courses within a highly respected academic institution.

After a year, this ground-breaking programme has produced the first series of fully certified trainers. The first crop of graduates have been assessed in a broad range of Control of Work competencies including Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HITRA) and Sentinel PRO® Level 1 and 2 training courses.

Petrotechnics’ senior training consultant, Mike Bowie, spent over a week supervising the final assessments for the candidates. To make sure that the programme produced more than conceptual understanding, the candidates were put through intensive and comprehensive observation of their learning and technical application by real life bp delegates.

Following the successful field assessment as part of this certification of these first candidates, they are now able to provide hazard awareness and CoW training for local workers without supervision.

Speaking of the partnership and progress, Iain Mackay, Executive Vice President of Petrotechnics stated “It’s a major milestone for all parties, Petrotechnics, bp , the University and most of all for the successful candidates. Petrotechnics has always been a firm believer in empowering individuals and local communities. Especially when it comes to ensuring safer, more effective risk management in our industry. With our track record of delivering safety education and industry leading work management software solutions including our new Operational Performance & Predictive Risk platform, Proscient; the support of UTT and the growth of the local industry cultivating self sustaining local safety capabilities was the most logical and rewarding thing to do. We hope these first few candidates will be the start of a significant wave of local safety talent within the region. ”

Zameer Mohammed, Assistant Vice President of the UTT’s Profession Education Unit commented on the successful engagement among the stakeholders: “The initiative was one of the better examples of an entrepreneurial engagement among industry, academia, and community. This triple helix engagement was an approach consistent with the University’s mission. The result of this inevitably can produce a cadre of Trinidad and Tobago nationals fully equipped with the competency set to sustain the requirements of industry.”

Petrotechnics and UTT have plans to build in the partnership, adding annual re-accreditation and expanding the coverage of the courses to include Isolations Management and Safety Leadership.

AT&T 4G LTE Available In Jayuya

As Part of AT&T’s Project VIP Investment, Customers to Benefit From Nation’s Fastest and Most Reliable 4G LTE Network on the Latest Devices

JAYUYA, Puerto Rico, Aug. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ – AT&T* has turned on the nation’s fastest and most reliable 4G LTE network** in Jayuya, bringing customers the latest generation of wireless network technology. Watch here to see several of the benefits AT&T 4G LTE provides, including:

  • Faster speeds. LTE technology is capable of delivering speeds faster than many other mobile Internet technologies***. Customers can stream, download, upload and game faster than ever before.
  • Reliability. AT&T not only has the nation’s fastest 4G LTE network, but now also has the most reliable 4G LTE network. According to independent third-party data, AT&T has the highest success rate for delivering mobile content across nationwide 4G LTE networks.
  • Cool new devices. AT&T offers several LTE-compatible devices, including new AT&T 4G LTE smartphones and tablets.
  • Faster response time. LTE technology offers lower latency, or the processing time it takes to move data through a network, such as how long it takes to start downloading a webpage or file once you’ve sent the request. Lower latency helps to improve services like mobile gaming, two-way video calling and telemedicine.
  • More efficient use of spectrum. Wireless spectrum is a finite resource, and LTE uses spectrum more efficiently than other technologies, creating more space to carry data traffic and services and to deliver a better network experience.

“We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in Jayuya responds to what customers want from their mobile experience — more, faster, reliably, on the best devices,” said AT&T Regional Vice President for Puerto Rico & USVI Ray Flores.

AT&T’s 4G Network
This launch is part of AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three-year investment plan announced last fall to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks. Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its customers’ growing desire for high-speed Internet access and new mobile, app and cloud-based services. As part of Project VIP, AT&T plans to add more than 10,000 macro cell sites nationwide by year-end 2015, as well as deploy more than 40,000 small cells and add more than 1,000 Distributed Antenna Systems to increase the density of its wireless network.

AT&T’s innovation and investment has resulted in a nationwide 4G network with ultra-fast speeds and a consistent user experience. The great performance of AT&T’s fastest and most reliable 4G LTE network continues to be validated by independent third-party testing:

  • Our 4G LTE service was recognized as having faster average download and upload speeds than any of our competitors in PCWorld/TechHive’s most recent 20-market speed tests — the second consecutive year that AT&T has ranked first overall. PCWorld/TechHive also ranked AT&T’s as the fastest combination of 3G and 4G services in the 20 cities it tested.****
  • And AT&T was named America’s fastest 4G LTE network in PC Magazine’s 2013 Fastest Mobile Networks 30-market study — and also swept the top rankings in all six U.S. regions from coast to coast: Northeast, Southeast, North-Central, South-Central, Northwest and Southwest.*****

Even as AT&T continues to expand its 4G LTE coverage, customers can get 4G speeds outside of 4G LTE areas on our 4G HSPA+ network, unlike some competitors, where smartphone customers may fall back to slower 3G technologies when outside of LTE coverage.

AT&T’s focus to deliver the best possible mobile Internet experience goes beyond 4G to embrace additional connection technologies. AT&T operates the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network******* including more than 32,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots at popular restaurants, hotels, bookstores and retailers, and provides access to more than 402,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn’t count against customers’ monthly wireless data plans.

AT&T also is a leading developer of Distributed Antenna Systems, which utilize multiple small antennas to maximize coverage and speed within stadiums, convention centers, office buildings, hotels and other areas where traditional coverage methods are challenging.

Over the past five years, AT&T invested nearly $98 billion into its wireless and wireline networks across the country. Since 2008, AT&T has invested more capital into the U.S. economy than any other public company. In a July 2012 report, the Progressive Policy Institute ranked AT&T No. 1 on its list of U.S. “Investment Heroes.”

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia and BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Oct. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Emera Inc. (TSX: EMA) announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary Emera Caribbean Limited has agreed to sell its 19.1% indirect interest in St. Lucia Electricity Services Ltd (LUCELEC) to Light & Power Holdings Ltd. (LPH), also an Emera Inc. subsidiary, for US $25.8 million.

“This acquisition will allow for greater cooperation between two leading electric utilities in the Eastern Caribbean,” stated Peter Williams, Managing Director, LPH. “LPH having an equity stake in LUCELEC will allow for a sharing of skills and increased efficiencies that we believe will result in benefits to customers in both countries.”

LPH is an investment company and the owner of The Barbados Light & Power Company Limited, a licensed supplier of electricity energy in Barbados. Formed as a holding company in 1997, LPH was created to allow Shareholders to take full advantage of potential investment opportunities in and outside of Barbados, including equity investments in other utilities.  The acquisition of 19.1 % of LUCELEC is consistent with this mandate. LPH is 80% owned by Emera Inc.

LUCELEC is a vertically integrated electric utility serving more than 60,000 customers, with exclusive license to generate, transmit and distribute electricity on the island of St. Lucia to the year 2045. The utility has 76 MW of generation capacity, primarily oil fired, and 1000 Km of electricity transmission and distribution assets.

LUCELEC’s Managing Director, Trevor Louisy, welcomed news of the investment noting, “It marks the start of a new era in the utility sector in the region.  Clearly the region has the financial and technical capacity to make such investments, which was unheard of in the past, and is indicative of a maturing of the sector. It also suggests that LUCELEC has been and continues to be a sound investment option.”

The terms of the acquisition agreement between Emera Caribbean and LPH provide for a potential sales price increase or decrease of US $4 million within 30 months of the closing date of the transaction.  Any adjustment would be triggered by either an additional public offering by LUCELEC; or a change in its allowed return on equity as a result of a change in its regulatory framework.

This acquisition is subject to relevant government and regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2011.

LIME Celebrates Labor Day Weekend In New York’s Caribbean Diaspora

CaribPR Wire, KINGSTON, Jamaica, Thurs. Sept. 15, 2011: For the second consecutive year, LIME was among top sponsors of the 44th Annual West Indian Carnival Festival that drew over three million to Eastern Parkway on Labor Day in Brooklyn, U.S.A. on September 5th.  A huge LIME-sponsored float from KARMA made its way down the Parkway as over two dozen LIME girls showed off the company’s colors with rags and shiny costumes and as executives stressed the company’s commitment to the Diaspora is not just short-term but here to stay.
While the LIME float urged fans to send minutes home to family and friends, the message at the company’s booth on the parade route created a buzz, as customers from the Diaspora and over 14 Caribbean islands lined up to take advantage of the 100 bonus credit offered over the weekend to any LIME mobile phone. Among those welcoming the LIME promotion was Jamaican national Caroline Greaves and her daughter, who have been Brooklyn residents for the past thirty years.
“I am thinking of trying their new TopUp plan which gives double credit, you cannot beat this kind of deal,” Greaves said, as the LIME float with a number of costumed clad revelers passed by. “Many of my friends are switching to LIME because they like their affordable rates and products.”
Early on Monday, Regional Head of Sponsorship for LIME, Sheldon Keens-Douglas, spent the morning with Mayor Mike Bloomberg and other city elected officials and business leaders at the annual kick-off breakfast of the West Indian American Day Carnival Association, reiterating the company’s commitment to the Diaspora and organizations like WIADCA.
”We wouldn’t miss it,” he explained. “After our participation last year we knew we would be back. The ‘E’ in LIME is refers to ourability to bring cultural activities home to our customers through exciting products like LIME TV, Video on Demand and LIME Mobile TV and the West Indian Carnival Festival is a great complement in that regard.”
LIME’s presence at the carnival brought the curtains down on a weekend long series of events that included sponsorship of the inaugural Reggae, Rhythm and Blues concert on Sunday, September 4th at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, NY, that featured performances from the likes of Movado, Machel Montano, John Holt, I-Octane, Kenneth “Baby Face” Edmonds” and Monica.
“For this summer, our double-top up promotion – which offered each customer who bought credit to get two times the amount paid for – was all about keeping in touch with friends and family back home. And the festival is about keeping in touch with that Caribbean legacy and heritage. There is a synergy here that LIME, with our own legacy of over 140 years, is proud to support,” said Keens-Douglas.
The company’s support also made the EVERYBODY’S Calypso & Soca Tent-Revue at the Tropical Paradise Ballroom that featured the world’s top calypso & soca superstars, such as The Mighty Sparrow, the Calypso King of the World, Shadow, Becket, Denyse Plummer, Rikki Jai and Edwin Yearwood, from August 29th – September 2nd, a reality; along with Brass Fest on Friday, September 2 at the grounds of the Brooklyn Museum in Brooklyn, NY, which saw thousands of Caribbean music fans jump and wave with LIME to the music of the 2011 Carnival King Machel Montano & Kes The Band, Patrice Roberts, Farmer Nappy and WCR. LIME also reinforced their commitment to family with the support of the Kiddies Carnival at the Brooklyn Museum grounds Saturday – as thousands of children proudly parade in their carnival costumes.
The telecommunications giant also returned for the second consecutive year as the platinum sponsor of the Caribbean Netball Association’s (CANA) Summer Netball League and Caribbean Cup 2011, which featured teams representing Jamaica, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Sri Lanka and Barbados. The round-robin Caribbean Cup tournament this past Sunday, September 11th, 2011, brought the curtain down on the summer long netball carnival which kicked off on June 4th at the Lincoln Terrace Park in Brooklyn, New York. LIME’s sponsorship included uniforms, prizes, and telecommunications services for the tournament at the various games that took place over the summer.

LIME, (formerly Cable & Wireless), is the Caribbean`s leading telecommunications company, currently servicing 14 Caribbean countries. LIME has kept the people of the Caribbean connected for more than 100 years and is focused on providing products and services that improve the lives of Caribbean people every day whether they live in the region or are part of the Diaspora.  LIME offers Top Up service to connect those living in the US to friends and family in the Caribbean. RIM Announces BBM Music – A New Social Music Sharing and Discovery Service

New Cloud-Based Music Service Makes Music a Social Experience

CaribPR Wire, Waterloo, ON – August 25, 2011 – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced BBM™ Music, a new BBM (BlackBerry® Messenger) service for socially connected music fans.

BBM Music is an easy-to-use cloud-based service that enables social and viral music discovery by allowing users to build an evolving, community-based music library that is shared amongst their BBM Music friends. The size of the music library continues to grow as new friends join the community and each user can select music from a catalog with millions of songs from leading music companies – Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI.

“More than 45 million customers already love the social communication benefits delivered through BBM and we are thrilled to be extending the experience into a uniquely social and interactive music service,” said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion. “We have partnered with leading music companies to provide a ‘full track’ music sharing and discovery experience that will provide users with quality music on demand and allow them to connect with friends on a whole new level.”

Key features of BBM Music include:

  • Music made social – BBM Music is a cloud-based, social music service that allows you to share and discover music with your friends, creating a continually evolving music library:
    • Build a personal music profile with 50 of your favorite songs. You can refresh your profile by swapping out up to 25 songs each month.
    • Invite your BBM friends to subscribe to BBM Music and to join your BBM Music Community.
    • With each friend that is added to BBM Music, you grow your music collection since the songs from the profile of each BBM Music friend are available to you at any time.
    • Up to 50 tracks from your personal profile are shared with your BBM Music Community, and each member of your community shares up to 50 songs from their profile with you.
    • Enjoy a truly social community-based music experience – the more friends who join your community, the more songs you can listen to.
    • Easily discover music that your BBM Music friends are listening to, and comment on your friends’ songs and playlists.
    • You can create multiple playlists from music in your profile as well as all of your friends’ profiles, and with one click you can shuffle the entire collection of music from your BBM Music Community. You can even see which friend contributed each song while it plays.
    • Within your BBM Music app, you also see a visual timeline that shows the recent updates of all users within your community. It gives you a chronological view of community updates, including who added new friends, which songs were added or removed, which playlists were created and what comments were made by your BBM Music friends.
  • Listen to Full Tracks – BBM Music subscribers can listen to full tracks from their friends’ profiles – not just previews.
  • Offline Listening - Music can be saved to smartphones for offline listening, allowing users to access songs even when they don’t have wireless coverage.
  • Topping the Charts – Keep track of how many friends are listening to your tracks.

Omnifone, a premier cloud music service provider, is providing RIM with a back-end solution for the BBM Music service that provides content management, music hosting and reporting functions based on Omnifone’s award winning technology. As part of RIM’s proprietary service, Omnifone’s back-end solution helps facilitate the delivery of a full music catalog to BBM Music users and comprehensive compensation reporting for copyright holders.

“A major component of online music continues to be about community, and the ability to discover new artists and music through word of mouth,” stated Rob Wells, President of Global Digital Business for Universal Music Group. “BBM Music dynamically and elegantly integrates the excitement of this social music discovery process with a high quality music service, enabling tens of millions of BlackBerry users to experience new music and to share those experiences with their friends virtually anywhere and at anytime.”

“We are pleased to be partnering with Research In Motion on their BBM Music service. RIM and its large base of BlackBerry Messenger users represent an exciting platform for expanding the reach of commercial digital music around the world,” stated Thomas Hesse, President, Global Digital Business, U.S. Sales and Corporate Strategy, Sony Music Entertainment. “The combination of a premium music solution and instant messaging will enable viral music discovery and emphasize the social power of digital music. It also offers an effective way of serving younger consumers by integrating music into the fabric of an important hub of their digital activity.”

“A dynamic social music experience is a powerful way for our artists to connect with fans and also for fans to discover music by interacting with each other,” said Michael Nash, Executive Vice President, Digital Strategy & Business Development, Warner Music Group. “Addressing more than 45 million BlackBerry Messenger users with a service tailor-made for its mobile community, BBM Music has the opportunity to reach a broad and engaged audience.”

“We are very excited to work with Research In Motion to bring our artists’ music to BBM’s huge and very loyal user base,” said Mark Piibe, Executive Vice President of Global Business Development at EMI Music. “BBM Music’s unique social discovery experience offers fans a great new way to discover music, share their favorite tracks with their friends and build a stronger connection with the artists they love.”

 Industry Imperative

  • According to Infonetics Research, service providers around the globe have increased their Ethernet services revenue 20 percent over the last two years, as companies continue to seek the efficiencies and cost savings these services afford. The CALA region is no exception with nearly 8 percent growth in Ethernet business services.
  • As service providers in CALA shift to optimize operations by converging mobile and fixed traffic in the same network, it is driving the move to all-IP/Ethernet backhaul for mobile broadband and LTE traffic.
  • Netflix’s planned expansion into the CALA region is driving service providers to add caching with Carrier Ethernet switches to address network congestion, much of which is driven by exploding video traffic.

What It Means to the Market, BTI Systems

  • The strengthening of the global network into CALA will provide valuable support for BTI Systems customers with deployments already underway in Jamaica and St. Maarten. This expansion also significantly extends the BTI Systems’ international footprint – with support now available in each major region worldwide.
  • Lead by an experienced local team that understands the challenges unique to the CALA market, prospective customers and partners will have seamless access to the knowledge, applications and infrastructure BTI Systems is known for around the globe.
  • Establishment of operations in CALA follows the recent announcement of a newly-opened Center of Excellence in Wuhan, China.

Meet Alex Fano, Vice President, CALA Sales

  • Alex Fano has been appointed as Sales Vice President for BTI Systems’ operations in the CALA region. Fano will oversee sales and marketing operations from the company’s new Houston office.
  • Fano has more than 19 years of sales and management experience throughout CALA’s telecommunications industry with Octel, Ascom, Bytemobile, BroadSoft and Openwave. His experience includes building strong channel partners and developing solid regional relationships with operators.

  • “BTI Systems is already making its mark in the CALA region and now is the perfect time to extend its reach and establish a physical presence in the region,” said Alex Fano, Vice President, CALA Sales, BTI Systems. “The company’s metro networking architecture and content aware networking solutions will be welcomed by the region’s carriers seeking an agile solution to manage and grow its networks for the future.”

  • “There is significant interest in the market for agile service delivery solutions to aid the burgeoning demand on network infrastructure – including Ethernet business services and OTT content delivery,” said Pete Dale, Vice President of Sales, Americas for BTI Systems. “Alex’s experience and respected position within the industry will be a crucial factor to BTI Systems’ success throughout CALA.
