interCaribbean cancels St Thomas and St Croix planned operations

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos, April 24, 2018 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ – interCaribbean Airways with a heavy heart must advise the Caribbean traveling public that services to St Thomas and to St Croix are canceled.  We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes those customers with planned travel arrangements on these flights.

interCaribbean has been working for some months to have the USVI filings process completed, for which it is not possible to manage simultaneously with the setup of all other operations in parallel.  Such has been the process, that other requirements to setup at the airports are unable to be advanced without this completed.

interCaribbean over a month ago deployed an additional aircraft to Tortola in readiness for these flights but given the unusually lengthy processes to get to a starting point, it has become clear that the approval process and our priorities are not aligned.  interCaribbean will now redeploy the aircraft into other operations and growth opportunities.  We operate in 13 countries and have not faced the prolonged or protracted challenges of setting up an operation timely in any country.  We wish to acknowledge we have seen the full cooperation from the CPB (Customs and Border Protection) and the TSA (Transport Security Administration) Agencies in receiving their early and timely approvals for both St Thomas and St Croix.

A key element at any new city served is selecting a partner handling company. In the case of the USVI, we are confronted with handling costs that are three to four times the norm across our entire network of cities.  We simply will not pay such outrageous prices.  We cannot expect to have to double our everyday affordable low airfares to compensate, for we will not see support from the traveling public.

Given the work necessary to make these cities a viable destination with airfares for which we have become known, we have elected to postpone until the winter season of this year 2018 and give time and opportunity to consider other options to create effective partner handling, and for all authorities to take all the time needed.  Should we find a satisfactory point.  We will update the traveling public as we move forward and keep you appraised.

Visit interCaribbean.com to learn more about the company and its operations.

KINGSTON, Jamaica, March 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ – interCaribbean Airways is pleased to announce the introduction of new scheduled non-stop air service connecting Kingston to Montego Bay, with 16 weekly flights each way.  These new flights from Montego Bay to Kingston provide onward flights to Providenciales, Grand Turk, Santo Domingo and San Juan making connections across the wider Caribbean a reality.  Introductory domestic fares are available from as little as US$29.00 (plus taxes) one way, for a limited time.

The flights, operated by 30 seat Embraer 120 aircraft with onboard flight attendant, begin service on April 16th with a convenient morning, and evening flight, giving the business community a full days business in either city.  For the leisure traveler arriving on a long haul flight from Europe, this new connection will give added peace of mind, to quickly transfer to or from Montego Bay or Kingston.  North American Travelers too, can take their favorite airline in one city and conveniently return from another.

“I am thrilled that there will be new scheduled air service between Kingston and Montego Bay,” said John Lynch, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism.  ”The service will be particularly helpful for travellers from the UK and Europe as there will be a seamless connection to get them into either city.  Passengers on airlines like Southwest, which do not fly into Kingston, will also be facilitated.”  ”I commend interCaribbean Airways for their foresight,” continued Mr Lynch.  ”They saw the need for improved domestic service and in filling the need, has provided additional benefits to Destination Jamaica.”

Alfred McDonald, Senior Director Commercial Development and Planning, Norman Manley International Airport Limited, said the new service by interCaribbean is timely, as the airline offers direct connections between Jamaica’s two main international airports and offer passengers traveling to either airport, a convenient and quick inter-island air link, closer to their final destination in Jamaica.  He added that passengers travelling to Jamaica on airlines such as British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, which fly into NMIA and SIA respectively, will no doubt welcome the news.

Mr. Trevor Sadler, CEO of interCaribbean Airways, said the introduction of these new services and their international connections, is the culmination of years of effort by Chairman Mr. Lyndon Gardiner concerning his work towards an airline that truly connects the Caribbean.  It is his belief that this connectivity is not just possible, but necessary to support a greater Caribbean economy, and with the support of Jamaica and the business community, we are now about to realize the next step in the growth of the company.

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands, Nov. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ – Air Turks & Caicos, the national airline of Turks & Caicos Islands announces the changing of its name to InterCaribbean Airways.  The “interCaribbean” name was chosen to reflect the greater Pan-Caribbean expansion of air service in the Western Caribbean in the coming months.  With this a new slogan adopted to reflect the mission…. Connecting you and the Caribbean.

For the first time, travelling between the islands of Western Caribbean may take an hour or two instead of a day or two.  For years the ability for business and leisure explorers to travel between the islands has been nearly impossible.  With the forthcoming expansion of air services, the citizens, residents and visitors will be able to travel faster and easier to create new business and leisure opportunities.

Mr. Lyndon Gardiner, the chairman of Air Turks & Caicos said “it is important for us to capture the life and the color of the Islands.  We believe our new brand and colors represent all of the Caribbean.”   Air Turks & Caicos selected design firm, Lila Design Associates, to create the development of the new brand.  “An important part of this process was to translate the airline’s vision in producing a Pan-Caribbean brand that reflects the route expansion and growth of network plans.” says Norbert Lambriex, the founding partner and creative director of Lila Design.  The lively and joyful Caribbean colors are renowned worldwide and should be recognized while our brand matures into a timeless and powerful image.   The logo represents elements of the sea, air, palm trees and flamingos.
