WILLEMSTAD, Curaçao, Nov. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ – Today, the Dutch Caribbean Air Navigation Service Provider (DC-ANSP) announced it has deployed Aireon’s space-based ADS-B surveillance service in the Curaçao Flight Information Region (FIR). This milestone follows years of collaboration, with the two organizations signing the data services agreement (DSA) in October of 2015.

Effective immediately, DC-ANSP will have 100 percent air traffic surveillance over the 300,000 square kilometers that make up Curaçao’s FIR. Adjacent to Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica and Colombia, the majority of this FIR is oceanic.

“Space-based ADS-B will revolutionize how DC-ANSP ensures the highest levels of safety and efficiency throughout the Curaçao FIR,” said Micilia Albertus-Verboom, Director General, DC-ANSP. “Before Aireon, the northwestern sector of our FIR lacked real-time air traffic surveillance coverage. Now, space-based ADS-B provides coverage where before there was none.”

The Curaçao FIR is a major throughway for flights; DC-ANSP manages critical routes between the United States, Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Europe throughout the Curaçao FIR. Because of space-based ADS-B coverage, DC-ANSP’s air traffic controllers will be able to reduce separation and guide overflight efficiency in the northwestern sector of the Curaçao FIR.

Costa Rican utility plans to deploy an intelligent network, distribution automation and sensing devices

The tournament – held in Curaçao in its 11^th year and raising a total of US$125,000 for the Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation – brought together over 90 participants made up of a variety of C&W’s technology, programing and administrative partners, and donors of the Foundation.

The donation from the Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation will be used towards CURA DOET, the biggest volunteer effort in Curaçao. Celebrated annually in March, the DOET weekend unites people who serve their communities across cultural and geographical differences. The activity consists of two national days of service whereby people in the communities are encouraged to get out and do something to help local worthwhile causes and NGOs.

Since it was set up in 2013, CURA DOET has engaged more than 21,000 volunteers who have collectively participated in more than 100,000 hours of service. During CURA DOET, NGOs get an opportunity to spruce up their location and grounds, parks and schools get a makeover and elderly people and those with special needs are treated to a special day.

The announcement comes one week after the Foundation confirmed funding of over US$290,000 to go towards rebuilding and equipping five schools in the most badly impacted areas of the Caribbean, following last year’s hurricane season.

El torneo –que se llevó a cabo en Curazao en su undécimo año y que recaudó un total de US$125.000 para la Fundación de Caridad de Cable & Wireless– reunió a más de 90 participantes de una variedad de socios de tecnología, programación, administración de C&W y donantes de la Fundación.

La donación de la Fundación de Caridad de Cable & Wireless se utilizará para CURA DOET, las tareas de voluntariado más grandes en Curazao. CaribPR Wire, MIAMI, March 16, 2018: The Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation today announced that it will provide additional funding of over US$290,000 to projects that will improve the lives of children in areas of the Caribbean impacted by last year’s hurricanes. This follows the Foundation’s initial US$100,000 donation to ShelterBox for relief efforts after the hurricanes, as well as a clean-up of the CHANCES children’s home in Dominica as part of C&W Communications’ annual Mission Day.

The new funding – made up of five individual grants – is a continuation of the Foundation’s plans to restore and rebuild affected countries. The grants will be used to support critical education services in some of the most badly impacted countries including the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), Dominica and Anguilla.

Specifically, the Foundation’s funding will be used as follows:

• In BVI:
  • US$100,000 will be used towards replacing the roof at the sole secondary school – Bregado Flax Secondary School – on Virgin Gorda
  • US$25,000 will be used towards repairs for the Eslyn Richiez Henly School for Disabled Children
• In TCI, US$100,000 will be used to provide computers, printers, desks and chairs for children in the Osetta Jolly Primary School
• In Dominica, US$45,000 will be used towards refurnishing the computer lab of Roseau Primary School, providing essential equipment like computers, projectors, flat screens and printers
• In Anguilla, US$22,500 will be used to provide supplies and repair the doors, windows and roof of Bethel Pre-School, working in partnership with Rotary District 7020.

Se realizarán cinco asignaciones de fondos a diferentes proyectos educativos en el Caribe

254,000 New Build/Upgrades in 2017, Creating Platform for Future Growth

Acquisition of C&W

On May 16, 2016, a subsidiary of Liberty Global plc acquired C&W (the “Liberty Latin America Transaction”). C&W was subsequently contributed to Liberty Latin America as part of the split-off from Liberty Global plc on December 29, 2017. Revenue, Adjusted Segment EBITDA and subscriber statistics have been presented herein using Liberty Latin America’s definitions for all periods presented unless otherwise noted. Significant policy adjustments have been considered in our calculation of rebased growth rates for revenue and Adjusted Segment EBITDA. Operating highlights²:

• RGU additions of 30,000 in Q4 took FY 2017 additions to 45,000.
  • Broadband RGU additions of 21,000 in Q4.
    • Network upgrades and improved go-to-market approach led to gains of 15,000 in Jamaica and 7,000 across our other Caribbean markets.
    • Panama leveraged its upgraded fixed infrastructure to increase sales of Mast3r bundles, however this was more than offset by churn on our legacy footprint leading to a decline of 1,000 RGUs.
    • We doubled the number of next-generation WiFi “Connect Boxes” across our broadband subscriber base in Q4 2017 to 55,000; significantly enhancing the quality of the in-home broadband experience for our customers.
  • Video additions of 3,000 RGUs in Q4, first overall net additions recorded in five quarters.
    • Excluding DTH losses of 4,000 in Panama, our fixed video RGUs grew by 7,000 across C&W’s markets.

CARIBPR Wire, MIAMI, FL, Dec. 20, 2017: Cable & Wireless Communications (C&W) today announced the appointment of Inge Smidts as Chief Executive Officer. She is replacing John Reid who announced earlier this month that he will step down from the position of CEO in early 2018. Smidts joins C&W from Liberty Global where she most recently held the position of Chief Marketing Officer.

Prior to her role at Liberty Global, Smidts was Senior Vice President – Residential Marketing and a member of the Executive Team at Telenet Group. While there, she was responsible for Go-to-Market reporting and overseeing the commercial strategy for Telenet’s business.

Smidts has significant brand and marketing experience having spent over ten years earlier in her career at Procter & Gamble, where she started as Assistant Brand Manager and was regularly promoted, ultimately to Business Leader for the Benelux Paper business. Smidts holds a Master of Economics degree from UFSIA in Antwerp and an MBA in Marketing from the IAE in Aix-en-Provence.

Cable & Wireless anuncia la designación de su nueva Presidente Ejecutiva, Inge Smidts

Smidts, quien actualmente se desempeña como Directora de Marketing de Liberty Global, se unirá a C&W en febrero de 2018

CARIBPR, Wire, MIAMI, FL, Dec. 20, 2017: Cable & Wireless Communications (C&W) anunció hoy la designación de Inge Smidts como Presidente Ejecutiva. Inge reemplazará a John Reid, quien renunció a su cargo durante este mes y será efectiva a principios del 2018. Smidts se une a C&W de Liberty Global, donde recientemente se desempeñó como Directora de Marketing.

Antes de ocupar este cargo en Liberty Global, Smidts fue Vice Presidente Senior de Marketing Residencial y miembro del Equipo Ejecutivo en Grupo Telenet. En esta posición, Inge era responsable de los informes de lanzamiento al mercado y la supervisión de la estrategia comercial del negocio de Telenet.
