Title: | Houston Salsa Festival 'Caribbeans for Haiti' Unites Musicians and Dancers |
Top Salsa and Merengue Acts Will Entertain Houstonians to Assist Haiti’s Earthquake Victims Through the American Red Cross
February 6, 2010 at Jones Plaza in Downtown Houston from Noon to 10:00 p.m.
HOUSTON, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ — The images of our Haitian brothers and sisters calling for help have mobilized Caribbean musicians in Houston. Gathered by the production team of the Puerto Rican and Cuban Festival, several local salsa and merengue orchestras, DJs and dance groups will entertain Houstonians for 10 hours in exchange for a $10 donation at the door to benefit the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.
The orchestras, dance groups, DJs and event organizers will donate their talents in order to maximize the donation to the Red Cross. “It is stimulating the response from all the artists wanting to make a contribution with their talent,” said Javier Ferrer, the lead organizer and creator of the Puerto Rican & Cuban Festival. “All the artists together with Houstonians at the festival will send a message of hope and unity to Haitians in need.”
In addition to the musical performances, Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican restaurants will be present offering Caribbean food. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be received by the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund. “If I were a doctor, I would be in Haiti helping the wounded, but I’m a singer in Houston giving the best of my talent to raise funds to help those in need,” said Cecille from the Cecille “La Diabla” & Rainel Pino’s Orquesta.
