Phased Opening Planned for Resort Beginning April 2017

NASSAU, Bahamas, Dec. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ – Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited (CTFE), a leading Hong Kong-based global conglomerate with a diversified business portfolio – including extensive hospitality experience with resort and mixed-use developments worldwide – today announced it has signed an agreement to own and operate Baha Mar Resort. The signed share purchase agreement (SPA) allows for the acquisition by CTFE of all issued capital from Perfect Luck Assets Limited (Perfect Luck), including those Baha Mar Resort assets previously transferred to the company.

Said Graeme Davis, President, CTFE’s Bahamas subsidiary, “CTFE will dedicate significant, ongoing investment and resources towards the pre-opening and opening of Baha Mar Resort. We will also ensure that the Bahamian people and the region benefit fully from the project, which will create tremendous job and economic stimulus opportunities. Further, by combining our global hospitality expertise with the vibrant and authentic Bahamian culture, we will create a memorable, unmatched experience for guests of which all Bahamians can be proud.”

CTFE is in discussions with several globally recognized hospitality brands to be luxury hotel operators at Baha Mar including Grand Hyatt, SLS Hotels, and CTFE subsidiary, Rosewood Hotel Group.

To prepare for the opening of the casino hotel and casino, CTFE is onboarding a leadership team of executives from internationally recognized brands. It plans to begin recruiting employees for the casino in the New Year and is also in discussions to form marketing alliances with leading global gaming companies.

CTFE Brings Vast, Global Expertise with a Diverse Portfolio Including Tourism and Hospitality

CTFE has a diversified, international business portfolio across the commercial real estate, hospitality, retail and transportation industries that includes property holding and development; hotel investment and management; jewellery retailing and department store interests; and transportation and infrastructure investment. Among the publicly listed companies controlled by CTFE are New World Development Company Limited, a property developer with a market capitalization of over US $10 billion; NWS Holdings Ltd, an infrastructure and transportation company with a market capitalization of over US $6 billion; and Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited, one of the largest jewellery retailers in the world with a market capitalization of over US $8 billion.

Within the tourism and hospitality arena, CTFE’s expertise is extensive, in part through its ownership of Rosewood Hotel Group, which owns and/or operates 55 hotels in 18 countries under three different brands. These include some of the world’s most iconic hotel properties including The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel (New York), Rosewood London and Rosewood Beijing. Rosewood Hotel Group also operates three Caribbean resorts: Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort in Antigua, Rosewood Tucker’s Point in Bermuda, and Rosewood Little Dix Bay in the British Virgin Islands (re-opening 2017).

In addition, the expertise of CTFE and its affiliated companies includes large-scale investment and development projects such as the US $10+ billion Greenwich Peninsula development project, one of the largest investments in London’s history, which is expected to include more than 15,000 new residences; the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane, a US $2.3 billion integrated resort development project in Australia; and a deluxe casino hotel development in Metro Manila, in the Philippines.

CTFE Committed to Phased Opening of Baha Mar Resort Beginning April 2017 and the Creation of Thousands of Jobs for Bahamians

CTFE is dedicated to the successful and timely opening and operation of Baha Mar Resort. Upon completion of the project by China Construction America (CCA) and EXIM Bank, the company intends to quickly establish Baha Mar as one of the world’s finest destination properties. CTFE plans to open the resort in phases, beginning with phase one in April 2017, which will include the casino hotel, casino, convention center and golf course. The company estimates that more than 1,500 jobs will be generated for Bahamians within this first phase. Once fully operational, Baha Mar Resort will employ thousands more.

Davis continued, “The Bahamas is one of the most iconic and popular destinations in the Caribbean. As we build on the foundation that has been established thus far, a critical part of our vision for Baha Mar Resort is to showcase the extraordinary beauty of the island in addition to its culture. In partnership with the Bahamian people, we look forward to delivering future guests a resort that is distinctive not only for the Bahamas but for the entire Caribbean.”

CTFE has plans to invest an additional US $200 million in the project to support pre-opening activities as well as the redevelopment of the prime beachfront Crystal Palace Casino Hotel site, and the development of additional family-friendly amenities, entertainment venues and offshore island facilities.

Bahamian Prime Minister and EXIM Bank Support CTFE in its New Role

“We are delighted to have CTFE join Baha Mar Resort as the owner and developer, leveraging its expansive network and resources to open new markets and opportunities for The Bahamas that will deliver great benefits to the island and our people,” said the Right Honourable Prime Minister, Perry G. Christie. “The Government is confident that CTFE has the precise capabilities and track record to successfully complete and operate Baha Mar Resort from both a lodging and casino perspective. We look forward to having such a renowned and experienced company turn the vision for Baha Mar Resort into reality.”

EXIM Bank said in a statement, “While there have been challenges with the project along the way, The Government of The Bahamas and EXIM Bank have been steadfast in bringing this project to fruition. Now, with a supremely qualified, world-class owner and operator in place, we look forward to working together with CTFE to bring the already stellar reputation of the Bahamas as a leading tourism destination to a new level.”

Seaborne Airlines launched service to Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday December 13

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Dec. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Plans made by Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Officials to welcome more flights from more airlines and tour operators around the world, upon completion of one of the largest and most modern airports in the Eastern Caribbean have rapidly taken off.

The Antigua and Barbuda Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Asot Michael, and Tourism Officials, welcomed a fourth airline into the destination, just three months after the opening of the new terminal at the V.C. Bird International Airport.

Seaborne Airlines launched its non-stop service between their hub in San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport and Antigua today with a 34 seat Saab 340 aircraft. The inaugural flight departed San Juan at 12:45 pm, and arrived into Antigua at 2:20 pm.

Seaborne Airline Officials, Mr. Hector Montanez – Director of Business Development & Marketing, Mr. Fernando Vazquez – Director of Airports, and Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Officials, Mrs. Paula Frederick-Hunte – Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Economic Development & Energy, and Ms. Shirlene Nibbs – Tourism Consultant for the Tourism Ministry were onboard the flight.

In welcoming the new carrier, Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Asot Michael called Seaborne Airlines, “the largest regional operator in the Caribbean.”

“The entrance of Seaborne, provides passengers with one additional option for travelling to Antigua and Barbuda, quicker and more conveniently.

“As a regional hub, the more modern V.C. Bird International Airport, was extremely appealing and advantageous to Seaborne as they seek to expand their services throughout the wider Caribbean.”

Commenting on the inaugurals held to date, the Minister said, “Our mandate is to grow airlift and to enhance our existing strategic positioning.”

“JetBlue’s launch into Antigua and Barbuda earlier in December, and today’s arrival of Seaborne, is especially significant, due to the codeshare agreement signed between the two airlines in October. What this codeshare means to the everyday traveler is that they will be able to travel from JetBlue serviced territories in the United States, to Antigua seamlessly, with one ticket, one check-in and reliable baggage transfer.”

Seaborne’s partnership with JetBlue Airways, as well as Air Europa, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines, means that, the airline can provide connections for passengers from thirty-three other destinations in the Americas as well as in Europe, into Antigua and Barbuda.

“We are excited to introduce Antigua as the 17th airport served by Seaborne Airlines; the fastest growing airline in the Caribbean,” said Seaborne CEO and President Gary Foss.

“I am confident that our customers throughout the region will benefit from Seaborne’s unmatched customer service commitment, low fares and connectivity to our airline partners.”

Flights from Antigua to San Juan depart at 3:05 pm and arrive at 4:40 pm.

V.C. Bird International Airport’s growing portfolio of passenger airlines maintains Antigua and Barbuda’s position as a major hub in the Eastern Caribbean.

About Seaborne Airlines

Seaborne Airlines has been operating in the Caribbean for over 23 years, carrying approximately 3 million customers safely. With over 1,500 monthly departures to 17 airports, Seaborne serves San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, St. Thomas airport and Seaplane base, St. Croix airport and Seaplane base, Anguilla, Antigua, Tortola, Dominica, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, St. Kitts, Nevis, La Romana, Punta Cana, and Santo Domingo. All flights operate with two pilots and two engines under Federal Air Regulation Part 121, the strictest code of the US Federal Air Regulation governing air travel.

About Antigua & Barbuda:

Antigua (pronounced An-tee’ga) and Barbuda (Bar-byew’ da) is located in the heart of the Caribbean Sea. The largest of the Leeward Islands, Antigua & Barbuda comprises 108-square miles. The 365 white and pink sand beaches, one for every day of the year, are just the beginning of the treasures that await visitors. Antigua’s rich history and spectacular topography provide a variety of popular sightseeing opportunities. Nelson’s Dockyard, the only remaining example of a Georgian fort commissioned by the British in 1755, is perhaps the most renowned landmark. Betty’s Hope, built in 1674, is the site of one of the first full-scale sugar plantations on Antigua, and offers a chance to step back into time by visiting the restored mills. Another unique attraction is Devil’s Bridge, located at the eastern tip of the island in Indian Town National Park, where Atlantic breakers have carved out a natural limestone arch. Antigua boasts a varied tourism calendar including events such as the World Class Antigua Sailing Week, Classic Yacht Regatta, Antigua Sports Fishing and also the annual Carnival; known as the Caribbean’s Greatest Summer Festival. Island accommodation ranges from luxury resorts and all-inclusive hotels to smaller more intimate boutique guesthouses and cottages.

CaribPR Wire, PAGET, Bermuda, Oct. 12, 2015 — Last Saturday, the Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Association inducted Caribbean Hotelier/Developer John Jefferis, JP into the Tourism Hall of Fame for 2015. He is one of only two persons ever to be inducted. The Tourism Hall of Fame recognises and honours those persons who have been outstanding performers in the hospitality and tourism industry and whose hard work, dedication and innovation make Trinidad and Tobago the destination of choice for tourists.

John Jefferis is the owner of Coco Reef – Bermuda, Coco Reef – Tobago and a number of other businesses in the Caribbean region, including Cuba. He started his career as a 15-year-old pot washer at a fish and chip restaurant in London. Today, he is the Chairman and sole shareholder of the Palm Reef Hotel Development Company Limited, Coco Reef Resorts Ltd, the Caribbean Construction Company, Island Resorts International Ltd and Inflite Catering, an airline catering company with operations in both Bermuda and Tobago.

Mr Jefferis, a past President and Chairman of the Bermuda Hotel Association, was the driving force behind Bermuda joining the Caribbean Hotel Association. He went on to become President of the Caribbean Hotel Association from 1996 to 1998 and Chairman from 1998 until 2000. During his presidency, Mr Jefferis visited nearly all of the Caribbean Association member Islands. During his speeches to the Island Hotel Associations his mantra was “Without a vibrant and profitable hotel industry a country can never have a successful tourism industry.”

In 2011, Mr Jefferis was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Bermuda Tourism Board. He also served as Chairman of the Bermuda Tourism Board’s Gaming Committee.

“We are proud to recognise John Jefferis’ 50 years of substantial and sustained contribution to leadership, service and success in the Trinidad and Tobago hospitality and tourism industry,” said Andrew Welch, President, Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Association. “The Award Judging Committee acknowledges John’s contribution to the growth of Trinidad and Tobago’s hospitality and tourism sector through innovation and astute business practices. Mr Jefferis has left a positive lasting legacy within his organisation, as well as with the people with whom he has worked. Coco Reef Resorts has significantly contributed to the improvement and the recognition of Tobago as a tourism destination.”

Mr Jefferis studied at Birmingham University where he was awarded the Hotel and Catering Institute’s National Award for the top final year management student. As a result of the award he was able to secure an internship at the Savoy Hotel in London. He then moved to Bermuda where he was employed as Junior Assistant Manager at the Belmont Hotel. He was subsequently promoted to General Manager at Belmont and was the youngest person ever to hold that post.

Subsequently Mr Jefferis was appointed Managing Director and a member of the Board of Directors of the Elbow Beach Hotel and Development Company. During his time at Elbow Beach, the hotel’s market share and reputation increased dramatically, making it Bermuda’s most successful and profitable hotel.

Mr Jefferis was also the owner of Edgehill Manor, Roxy’s Night Club and the Palm Reef Hotel, all of which he later sold. He was the major shareholder in the Haley Corporation, which was for many years, Bermuda’s largest tour operator and source of tourists.

In 1992, Mr Jefferis commenced the design, development plans, financing, and construction of the $82 million Coco Reef – Tobago, which became one of the Caribbean’s most successful properties. A well-known leading Caribbean Tour Operator/Airline Executive stated: “Without Coco Reef, there would not be any tourism in Tobago.”

At the staff orientation meetings after the opening of Coco Reef – Tobago, the essence of Mr Jefferis’ opening remarks was: “We are in the business of theatre. My job is to spend a lot of money to create a beautiful set for our guests. You are the actors and actresses, many of you will become stars. We must always remember that we are only as good as our customers’ perception of our last performance.” His philosophy on staff recruitment was made clear by the large sign over the General Manager’s office door: “Hire for Attitude – Train for Skills”.

In 2003, Mr Jefferis acquired the Stonington Beach Hotel situated on Bermuda’s most famous beach and underwent a $14.3 million reconstruction, renovation and refurbishment to open Coco Reef – Bermuda in 2004.

In response to his induction into the Tourism Hall of Fame, John Jefferis said: “Having devoted my career to the hospitality and tourism industry, it is an honour to be inducted into the Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Association Hall of Fame. Creating new and memorable experiences and continually upgrading and redesigning my hotels for our guests is my passion and I am always humbled to be recognised for doing what I love most.”

Mr Jefferis has won countless accolades and awards including: Bermuda Hotel Association’s first “Bermuda Hotelier of the Year” in 1989, The Caribbean Hotel Association’s “Caribbean Hotelier of the Year” in 1991, Ernst and Young’s “Caribbean Entrepreneur of the Year Award” in 2000 and Caribbean World’s “Lifetime Achievement Award in Tourism and Travel” in 2008. Most recently, in 2014, he was named International Caribbean Life’s “Entrepreneur of the Year.” In addition, Coco Reef – Tobago has won the World Travel Award for the “Caribbean’s Leading Hotel” for the past 11 years.
