Seaborne Airlines Flying High in The Golden Mile Business District of San Juan

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Feb. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Seaborne Airlines and the Puerto Rico Infrastructure Financing Authority (PRIFA) have entered into an agreement to install Seaborne’ s corporate logo on the 23rd floor of the exterior frontal façade of the World Plaza Building in Hato Rey. Seaborne’ s headquarter offices are located in the World Plaza, one of the tallest and most emblematic commercial buildings in the business zone. The government of Puerto Rico made a strategic investment in Seaborne, closing in early 2014. Since that time, Seaborne and Puerto Rico have worked together to allow Seaborne to ’spread its wings’ to 17 airports throughout the Caribbean. Seaborne operates as a codeshare partner to American Airlines, JetBlue Airways and Air Europa with interline connecting agreements with Delta Airlines, United Airlines and many other carriers.

Constructed in 1972, the architectural design of the World Plaza remains one of the most striking views in the skyline of The Golden Mile. It also holds an important place in the business history of Puerto Rico, having shared another legendary name, Banco de Ponce, exactly where Seaborne will proudly display its brand.

Very soon, Seaborne’s brand will rise up in the busy Golden Mile District. Seaborne Airlines, the largest regional operator at the Caribbean’s largest connecting hub at San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport has exemplified itself with high standards of customer service, operating all flights from San Juan with two pilots and a flight attendant on the comfortable 34-seat Saab 340 aircraft.

“We saw the potential of the deal with Seaborne for Puerto Rico, and Seaborne saw the big opportunities that Puerto Rico has to offer as a business destination. It is another example of how we are reenergizing our anchor industries while fostering a services, exportation and knowledge oriented economy” said Alberto Bacó Bagué, Secretary of Economic Development for Puerto Rico. “Now everyone will be able to see that Seaborne’s headquarters are here in Puerto Rico, that they believe in us and that they are part of Puerto Rico’s economic transformation”, said Bacó.

“We are pleased of our joint efforts with Seaborne Airlines to make possible their operations in Puerto Rico, choosing the World Plaza as its headquarters. The property, owned by PRIFA, provides the airline a strategic location in Puerto Rico’s Golden Mile to run its business as one of the largest airlines of the Caribbean. It also secures the airline’s growth as part of Puerto Rico’s aerospace ecosystem”, said Grace Santana, executive director of PRIFA.

Seaborne, a Part 121 US Flag Carrier, is the only commercial airline operating with the Puerto Rican flag on its fuselage. “No one flies the flag higher,” said Gary D. Foss, CEO and President of Seaborne. “This is just another step forward as we continue to build upon the success Seaborne is experiencing in Puerto Rico and throughout the Caribbean”, added Foss.

“We would like to extend a special thanks to Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla, Grace M. Santana, Chief of Staff to the Governor as well as PRIFA Executive Director and Cesar R. Perez, PRIFA Deputy Director, for their support to Seaborne Airlines in this project. We would be remiss to not thank Ingrid R. Rivera Rocafort, Executive Director of The Tourism Company of Puerto Rico and Mr. Joey Cancel Planas, President of the Economic Development Bank of Puerto Rico and their staffs. Without their support and the support of the people of Puerto Rico, Seaborne would not be where it is today”, said Foss.

Seaborne Airlines has been operating in the Caribbean for over 23 years, carrying approximately 3 million customers safely. With over 2,200 peak monthly departures to 17 airports, Seaborne serves San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, St. Thomas airport and Seaplane base, St. Croix airport and Seaplane base, Anguilla, Antigua, Tortola, Dominica, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, St. Kitts, Nevis, La Romana, Punta Cana, and Santo Domingo. Located in the parish of St. Philip at the former site of Sam Lord’s Castle–a spot renowned for pirates in the 19th century and one that carries great historical significance in the Caribbean today–the all-new construction resort is being developed with Barbados Tourism Investment, Inc. and will be managed by Wyndham Hotel Group. In addition to spacious, elegantly appointed guest-rooms, the resort will offer three on-site restaurants, 20,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art meeting space as well as an expansive luxury spa and fitness center. It will be the first Wyndham branded resort in Barbados.

“The famous buccaneer Sam Lord settled in this area for its beauty and mystique. Today, we believe he selected the perfect location for our continued growth in the Caribbean,” said Paulo Pena, president and managing director, Latin America and the Caribbean for Wyndham Hotel Group. “This new hotel’s spectacular design will surely become an icon for guests in search of unique 5-star offerings and amenities.”

“We are proud to recognise John Jefferis’ 50 years of substantial and sustained contribution to leadership, service and success in the Trinidad and Tobago hospitality and tourism industry,” said Andrew Welch, President, Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Association. “The Award Judging Committee acknowledges John’s contribution to the growth of Trinidad and Tobago’s hospitality and tourism sector through innovation and astute business practices.  Mr Jefferis has left a positive lasting legacy within his organisation, as well as with the people with whom he has worked.  Coco Reef Resorts has significantly contributed to the improvement and the recognition of Tobago as a tourism destination.”

Mr Jefferis studied at Birmingham University where he was awarded the Hotel and Catering Institute’s National Award for the top final year management student. As a result of the award he was able to secure an internship at the Savoy Hotel in London. He then moved to Bermuda where he was employed as Junior Assistant Manager at the Belmont Hotel. He was subsequently promoted to General Manager at Belmont and was the youngest person ever to hold that post.

Subsequently Mr Jefferis was appointed Managing Director and a member of the Board of Directors of the Elbow Beach Hotel and Development Company. During his time at Elbow Beach, the hotel’s market share and reputation increased dramatically, making it Bermuda’s most successful and profitable hotel.

Mr Jefferis was also the owner of Edgehill Manor, Roxy’s Night Club and the Palm Reef Hotel, all of which he later sold. He was the major shareholder in the Haley Corporation, which was for many years, Bermuda’s largest tour operator and source of tourists.

In 1992, Mr Jefferis commenced the design, development plans, financing, and construction of the $82 million Coco Reef – Tobago, which became one of the Caribbean’s most successful properties. A well-known leading Caribbean Tour Operator/Airline Executive stated: “Without Coco Reef, there would not be any tourism in Tobago.”

At the staff orientation meetings after the opening of Coco Reef – Tobago, the essence of Mr Jefferis’ opening remarks was: “We are in the business of theatre. My job is to spend a lot of money to create a beautiful set for our guests. You are the actors and actresses, many of you will become stars. We must always remember that we are only as good as our customers’ perception of our last performance.” His philosophy on staff recruitment was made clear by the large sign over the General Manager’s office door:  “Hire for Attitude – Train for Skills”.

In 2003, Mr Jefferis acquired the Stonington Beach Hotel situated on Bermuda’s most famous beach and underwent a $14.3 million reconstruction, renovation and refurbishment to open Coco Reef – Bermuda in 2004.

In response to his induction into the Tourism Hall of Fame, John Jefferis said: “Having devoted my career to the hospitality and tourism industry, it is an honour to be inducted into the Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Association Hall of Fame. Creating new and memorable experiences and continually upgrading and redesigning my hotels for our guests is my passion and I am always humbled to be recognised for doing what I love most.”

Mr Jefferis has won countless accolades and awards including:  Bermuda Hotel Association’s first “Bermuda Hotelier of the Year” in 1989, The Caribbean Hotel Association’s “Caribbean Hotelier of the Year” in 1991, Ernst and Young’s “Caribbean Entrepreneur of the Year Award” in 2000 and Caribbean World’s “Lifetime Achievement Award in Tourism and Travel” in 2008. Most recently, in 2014, he was named International Caribbean Life’s “Entrepreneur of the Year.” In addition, Coco Reef – Tobago has won the World Travel Award for the “Caribbean’s Leading Hotel” for the past 11 years.

Study Reveals $3.16 Billion in Cruise Tourism Expenditures throughout 35 Caribbean, Mexican, and Latin American Destinations during 2014/15 Cruise Year

COZUMEL, Mexico, Oct. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ – Today Business Research & Economic Advisors (BREA) launched its analysis of spending related to cruise tourism and its impact on destinations’ economies. The triennial study engaged by the FCCA included a record 35 participating destinations throughout the Caribbean, Mexico and Central and South America.

It found that cruise tourism generated $3.16 billion in direct expenditures, 75,050 jobs and $976 million in employee wages among participating destinations during the 2014/2015 cruise year and the 23.6 million passengers disembarking ships and visiting the destinations.

The main driver—average expenditure per passenger—increased to $103.83, 8.25 percent higher than the 2011/2012 cruise year and accounting for $2.45 billion. Contributing to this increase were passengers spending 30 percent more per passenger on shore excursions, 20 percent more per passenger for local crafts and souvenirs and two percent more for food and beverages, along with a higher percentage of passengers making purchases in each of these categories. In fact, more than half of all transit passengers that went ashore purchased a shore excursion and food and beverages.

Just over 75 percent of passenger expenditures were made in four categories: watches and jewelry ($877 million), shore excursions ($551 million), clothing ($238 million), and food and beverages ($189 million). Shore excursions was the most popular category, with over half (53 percent) of all passengers purchasing this and local tour operators receiving an average of $43.99 per passenger directly from cruise passengers and cruise lines.

The estimated 4.5 million crewmembers visiting the 35 participating destinations spent approximately $302 million for goods and services, with an average per crew expenditure of $67.10, heavily weighted toward food and beverages, jewelry, and electronics.

In addition to net payments to local tour operators, cruise lines also provided data for payments to ports for passenger taxes and port services, as well as payments to local businesses for supplies and services. These categories accounted for an estimated $400.8 million.

Other key findings from the study include that 63 percent of passengers made their first visit at the destination; 93.7 percent went ashore; 65 percent made onshore purchases; and passengers spent an average 4.38 hours ashore. Plus visit satisfactions surveys found that cruise passengers were very satisfied with their overall destination visit; shore excursions received the highest score of all visit attributes; and passenger interactions with residents and store employees were very positive.

The study was released at the 22nd annual FCCA Cruise Conference & Trade Show in Cozumel, Mexico. Cozumel itself participated in the study and ranked third in overall expenditures with $365 million. St. Maarten led all destinations with nearly $423 million (while ranking third in passenger and crew onshore visits, it had the highest average total expenditure per visit of $189), followed by the Bahamas with $373 million.

The FCCA engages this study as one of many ways it works with destinations to foster understanding of cruise tourism, its benefits and how to best actualize its potential. The study’s release during the FCCA Cruise Conference & Trade Show further adds to the event’s focus on maximizing this potential through a series of meetings, workshops and networking opportunities between destination stakeholders and cruise executives to offer insight and develop business and relationships.

Sabre launches new Business Travel Services connecting hotels and travel buyers

SOUTHLAKE, Texas, July 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ – Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ: SABR) has launched a new portfolio of consortia solutions to help hotels compete for high value business travelers and connect travel buyers with hotels that cater to business travelers. Sabre will feature the Business Travel Services during the 2015 GBTA Convention at booth #1425.

Many independent and small chain hotels today find it difficult to compete for new travel agency and corporate business due to limited resources and investments compared to global hotel chains. Sabre Business Travel Services connects hotels to new business opportunities and helps them compete for and manage corporate accounts. At the same time, the solutions make it easier for travel managers and travel management companies to identify, negotiate and contract with hotels that best fit their corporate hotel programs.

“On a macro-economic level, business travel continues to be a major economic driver and the same is true on a micro-level for hotels looking to build their corporate business and serve business travelers,” said Alex Alt, president of Sabre Hospitality Solutions. “Our Business Travel Services simplify that process by helping hotels compete for valuable business travel contracts and helping corporations get the most from their travel budgets.”

According to a recent research report sponsored by Sabre and conducted by GBTA, managing supplier relationships and monitoring traveler compliance with corporate travel policies are two of the most time-consuming and important aspects of most corporate travel programs.

The new report, Travel Manager 2020 – Foundational Shifts in the Role of the Travel Manager, discusses how corporate travel managers increasingly rely on technology and data as critical tools in negotiating contracts with suppliers, identifying hard-dollar savings, and monitoring compliance.

“As hotel rates continue to climb, a corporation’s hotel spend can account for as much of the travel budget as air travel. So it’s extremely important that corporations can tie negotiated rates to booked rates to ensure travelers are being offered what was negotiated and that they track that savings throughout the year – not just during negotiation season,” continued Alt.

Sabre Business Travel Services provide the ability to integrate negotiated rate data into both the hotel’s reservation system and into the travel buyer’s online and offline booking channels to maximize savings and efficiency. The solutions portfolio builds upon Sabre’s existing Sabre Hotel RFP technology and hotel consortia program to add an elite hotel consortia tier, BT Advantage, and Global Account Management.

GREENSBORO, N.C., June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ – On June 27th 2015 Dynamic International Airways will be celebrating its first anniversary since entering Guyana market.

After our initial bumpy start, Dynamic International Airways was been able to accomplish its goal in establishing itself as the preferred carrier of Guyanese. We have proven sustainability of air service between United States and Guyana as well as progressively increased our customer service levels.

Since inauguration, Dynamic International Airways has been able to expand its non-stop service between New York, NY and Georgetown, Guyana. Service started initially two times per week and expanded to five times per week this coming high season while still keeping its pricing low and affordable for Guyanese and members of Guyanese ethnic in New York.

“Our goal in the first year of service was to establish ourselves as the preferred carrier of Guyanese.  We achieved this by maintaining the highest safety records, delivering the most desirable schedule, and reached highest on time performance standards as well as exemplary customer service. Our goal for the immediate future is to build upon that momentum and expand our non-stop JFK to GEO service by operating daily frequency.  Most importantly continue raising the bar in our safety, reliability, and customer service standards,” said Bill Grey CSO of the company.

“We believe that our coming daily service from Georgetown to New York combined with non-stop service from Georgetown to Toronto, which we intend to start in October of this year, will allow us to provide Guyanese with safe, reliable and affordable service into two of their favorite international destinations. As you probably already know we have directly and indirectly created over 150 new jobs in Guyana with our service to New York by hiring Guyanese based Flight Attendants, local ground handlers, catering providers and we expect a similar positive impact with the launch of our new service to Toronto. Dynamic has proven its intent and dedication to stay, improve and grow international travel to and from Guyana. Expect some amazing surprises for loyal passengers and exciting announcements from Dynamic in coming days.”
