RIM Sees Third Quarter Increase
CaribPR Wire, MIAMI, FL, Mon. Dec. 20, 2010: RIM completed the third quarter of fiscal 2011 with record revenue, subscriber additions and earnings.
RIM also reported record shipments and, in fact, this is the sixth consecutive quarter that RIM reported record shipments.
RIM’s revenue grew over 40% year-over-year and we’ve seen strong international growth.
During Q3, RIM launched two new BlackBerry smartphones, the BlackBerry Style 9670 and the BlackBerry Bold 9780. The BlackBerry Torch, which is now available in three colors, was also launched in over 75 new markets during Q3, while the BlackBerry Curve 3G rolled out with 118 carriers in 48 countries.
During the quarter, RIM announced its plans to enter the tablet sector with the BlackBerry PlayBook. The BlackBerry PlayBook is powered by the BlackBerry Tablet OS, which is based on technology from the QNX acquisition RIM made earlier this year. The PlayBook, which combines the multi-core BlackBerry Tablet OS with a fast, powerful dual core processor and full support for HTML5, JavaScript, WebWorks, Flash and AdobeAIR, is already generating significant interest and excitement based on its high performance and uncompromising web experience, as well as its powerful easy-to-use development environment based on open web standards.
Revenue
Revenue for Q3 FY11 was $5.49 billion, up 40% from $3.92 billion in the same quarter of last year.
Units Shipped
During Q3, RIM shipped 14.2 million devices, up 40% from 10.1 million devices in the same quarter of last year.
Guidance for Q4 FY11
Revenue for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011 ending February 26, 2011 is expected to be in the range of $5.5 – $5.7 billion and shipments are expected to be 14.5 – 15 million units. Earnings per share for the fourth quarter are expected to be in the range of $1.74 – $1.80 per share diluted.
