HBO Latin America Brings the Best Programming for 2010

MIAMI, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ — HBO LA announced its programming schedule for 2010, which includes premiers, new original productions and many surprises. Like in previous years, HBO LA will keep offering subscribers the best in entertainment as they continue their commitment to the development of the television industry in Latin America through their original productions.

“HBO is the leader in entertainment in Latin America due to our technology, our innovation strategy and our high quality content,” assured Emilio Rubio, president of HBO Latin America. “Furthermore, our partnership with major studios allows us to have the most successful films in the box office. This is how we will continue to offer our subscribers the best programming in 2010,” he stated.

Shows and Miniseries

This year will be filled with excitement for HBO viewers, especially with premiers of such mega productions like the new miniseries The Pacific, produced by the same team that brought Band of Brothers to the screen — Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman. The story line of this show revolves around different perspectives of the World War II conflict between the United States and Japan.

Also premiering is The Prisoner, based on the successful British series from the 1960’s, which tells the story of a man who inexplicably finds himself in a place called The Village. Without knowing how he arrived there, the protagonist begins to explore his environment and discovers that the inhabitants of this strange place are identified by numbers instead of names and are less trustworthy than they at first appear to be.

HBO LA will also be premiering the new seasons of the successful, Golden Globe nominated shows: Big Love IV, Entourage VI and VII, Mad Men III, True Blood III, and Hung II.

  HBO Latin America Original Productions

Also, 2010 marks the beginning of the first comedy in the region and the fourth original production in Brazil, Mulher de Fases.  The show follows the adventures of a divorced woman who is searching for a man to rebuild her life.

Also premiering in 2010 is the second season of the successful series Capadocia, nominated to three awards at the 2009 International Emmy(R) for Best Series, Best Actress for Cecilia Suarez and Best Actor for Oscar Olivares. The series will feature new actors and new storylines that take place around a privatized government prison in Mexico City.

 Movies

HBO has exclusive rights to the biggest blockbuster films in the world and from such major motion picture studios like Warner Bros. Entertainment, New Line Cinema, Buena Vista, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture and Sony Pictures Entertainment.  Included among the films that will premiere on HBO in 2010 are Seven Pounds, starring Will Smith; The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, with Brad Pitt; Gran Torino, directed and starring Clint Eastwood; Angels and Demons, based on the book by Dan Brown and starring Tom Hanks; and The Hangover, a comedy that tells the story of four friends who travel to Las Vegas to celebrate the bachelor party for one of them.

 Sports

The Next Boxing Generation (NBG) franchise will continue to broadcast the best in boxing, and each month, in a premium showcase, it will give the current and future stars of Latin American boxing the opportunity to display their talents and their careers on their quest to capture the World Championship Title.

Cinemax and Maxprime

Cinemax, as part of a group of channels belonging to HBO Latin America Group, is a premium channel that offers movie lovers productions from the largest studios, international independent films, the most acclaimed documentaries and those movies worth watching again. In 2010, Cinemax will continue to offer a wide range of award-winning independent titles from around the world.  Productions such as Vicky Cristina Barcelona (Spain/USA), Rachel Getting Married (USA), Mongol (Russia/Mongolia), Let the Right One In (Sweden), are a few of the titles that will be part of the programming. Additionally, Cinemax will debut Hollywood blockbusters like Mad Money, I am Legend, We Own the Night, and many more.

Maxprime will continue to offer its male subscribers a select range of action, comedy, blockbuster and erotic titles, reinforcing their brand positioning. It will also continue broadcasting the most acclaimed and controversial shows every Wednesday, as well as the more daring PENTHOUSE adult content, every weekday after midnight.

The festival wraps up on Saturday January 30th with the Empress of Soul, Gladys Knight along with Third World, Hall & Oates, Jon Secada and Marion Hall.

The addition of two top tier acts was precipitated by the unavailability of Jennifer Hudson for the Festival. Hudson was forced to cancel her confirmed appearance to accept an invitation from senior music executive Clive Davis to perform at the Grammy Awards.

`The date for the Grammy Awards had to be moved up, due to the Winter Olympics,` explained Festival Executive Producer Walter Elmore. `Changes in schedules are sometimes unavoidable, but they are also opportunities,` Elmore said of the revised line-up.

In a statement, her representatives indicated that, `Jennifer is very much looking forward to performing at next year`s festival as she is unable to perform for the 2010 event due to scheduling conflict.`

The 2010 staging of the JAMAICA Jazz and Blues Festival will be a seven-day long celebration of The Art of Music that will see the North Coast engulfed in the awesome sights and sounds of the Turn Key Productions event from January 24-30.

Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival Moves To Greenfield Stadium, Trelawny

CARIBPR Wire, NEW YORK, NY, Dec. 18, 2009:   The Caribbean’s best music festival, Jamaica Jazz & Blues, has moved its main stage acts for the January 2010 festival to the Greenfield Stadium in Trelawny,   just19 km east of its former home in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Turnkey Productions, producers of the annual festival, explained that for the past three years the festival has been housed temporarily at the Aqueduct at Rose Hall, which requires putting in major infrastructure for each staging, at significant cost to the festival.   With the deterioration in the economic climate coupled with inflation of costs, it became unfeasible to host the event at the Rose Hall venue, officials say.

Additionally, with the loss of a significant parking facility, great inconvenience would have been caused to the Festival’s loyal patrons as they would have been forced to park at much farther distances from the event.

“With these realities, we had to weigh our options on whether to risk not being able to effectively stage the festival, as well as forego the comfort and ease of movement of our patrons, or find a new venue that would solve our major problems,” said Walter Elmore President of Turnkey Productions. “The Greenfield Stadium in Trelawny which is only 12 miles or 12 minutes away from the old venue became the most ideal option when all needs were considered.”

But organizers insist the experience will continue to be above par, especially with top performances coming from Empress Of Soul, multiple Grammy award-winning singer and former Motown icon, Gladys Knight, Billy Ocean, The Whispers, Maxi Priest, Machel Montano, Joe Roy Jackson, Joss Stone, Hall and Oats, Jon Secada, Robin Banks, Monty Alexander, Roy Ayers, Third World and the Max Klezmer Band.

Additionally, in order to take the elite event to as many music fans as possible, the event will become a travelling experience, starting on Sunday, January 24th in Kingston before moving on to Ocho Rios and Montego Bay for three days before settling into its new main stage home for the Thursday, January 28 to Saturday, January 30 th finale.

Jamaica Jazz festival officials are urging all music fans in the U.S., U.K. and Canada to give themselves an early Christmas gift now by booking a package to the festival to experience the sights, sounds and magic of sunny Jamaica, West Indies.

Hotel rates are available from as low as US$46 per person or US$92 for single occupancy and most hotels will offer shuttle service to the venue. Tickets and packages are available at www.jamaicajazzandblues.com or by calling your favorite travel agent.

Coors Light Brings Cold Refreshment to Trinidad & Tobago and Enters Its 10th Country in the Caribbean

Molson Coors Partners with NWT Enterprises Ltd. to Distribute Coors Light

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Molson Coors Brewing Company (NYSE: TAP) and NWT Enterprises Ltd. have partnered to introduce Coors Light to beer drinkers in Trinidad & Tobago. As Molson Coors focuses on international growth, Coors Light, the world’s most refreshing beer, is now available at supermarkets, convenience stores, as well as bars and casual dining restaurants throughout the country.

Within the Caribbean, Trinidad & Tobago is the fourth largest beer market and has the highest per capita consumption. The presence of imported premium beer brands is a growing category in Trinidad & Tobago, as is consumer’s interest in quality American brands like Coors Light. Coors Light is now available in ten countries across the Caribbean.

The introduction of Coors Light to the Trinidad & Tobago market is part of a larger Molson Coors global expansion strategy.   The popularity of light, refreshing beer is growing globally, and Coors Light is well positioned to meet the demand. Coors Light travels well to new markets, particularly in Latin America, with sales up over 35% last year in Mexico and over 150% in Panama where this year it will surpass 90,000 cases after its introduction two years ago. Other markets where Coors Light is being launched this year include Costa Rica and Curacao Bonaire.

Beginning this month, retailers in Trinidad & Tobago will carry Coors Light bottles and cans. All packages will feature mountains on the label with thermochromatic ink that turns blue when Coors Light has been chilled to the perfect temperature for ice cold refreshment.   According to Coors Light research, consumers want to know when their beer is cold enough to drink. To meet that need, Coors Light introduced the Cold Activated Bottle in the U.S. in 2007, the latest in a long line of innovations and packaging enhancements that have been a hallmark of Molson Coors beers.

“We are proud to partner with NWT and excited about the opportunity to bring the world’s most refreshing beer to beer drinkers across these beautiful islands.   Beer drinkers across the Caribbean are flocking to Coors Light as a uniquely refreshing beer and we are confident that with these kinds of distribution partnerships, combined with the distinctive brand promise of Coors Light, we will continue to grow this brand globally,” said Paul Mendieta, Molson Coors Managing Director for Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. “Trinidad & Tobago has a strong beer drinking culture and the introduction of Coors Light is perfectly timed with the country’s growing interest and enthusiasm surrounding American beer and the special drinking experience provided through our cold activation technology.”

“We are pleased to be partnering with Molson Coors to bring Coors Light to the market. The imported beer segment in Trinidad & Tobago is growing and the introduction of Coos Light fits well with the population’s desire for cold, refreshing beer. Molson Coors has achieved a lot of success in similar markets in the Caribbean and we look forward to helping our friends satisfy their thirst for cold refreshment whether it’s at Carnival or just limin on the beach,” added John-Paul Tannous, Director of NWT Enterprises Ltd.

Coors Light is available in more than 25 countries, including Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Ireland, and China.
