HIGHGATE PUBLISHES FIRST ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE (ESG) REPORT

Reinforces the Company’s Commitment to Making a Positive Impact on the Hospitality Industry and the Greater Global Community

NEW YORK, May 18, 2023 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ – Highgate released today its environmental, social and governance (ESG) report which includes a comprehensive analysis of its successful sustainability performance to-date as well as its strategies for reducing the environmental impact of its hotels. It is believed to be among the first reports of its kind by a major hotel management company.

Highgate has company goals to expand on numerous initiatives highlighted in the report, including increasing its number of carbon neutral hotels, onsite solar systems, biodiversity projects, third-party eco-certified hotels, and electric vehicle (EV) charging station installations. Tracking and reporting carbon, energy, water and waste performance data is another critical program component to monitor and share progress. Comparing 2021 to 2019, Highgate reduced its total GHG emissions by 21.8% and has cut energy use by more than 170,000 megawatt hours (MWh).

As an example of the ambitious environmental standards and objectives that Highgate is pursuing, the report highlights how the Alohilani Resort became the first hotel in Hawaii to commit to PAS 2060 carbon neutrality certification. As part of this initiative, the hotel partnered with the Hawaii Legacy Reforestation Initiative to reforest more than 1,200 acres of trees, which is the first carbon removal project in the United States to achieve Gold Standard certification.

As a member of the Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA), Highgate became the first hospitality company to sign CEBA’s Commercial Real Estate Principles, which supports the decarbonization of commercial buildings through energy optimization and renewable energy procurement. In 2021, Highgate made a large-scale investment in Green-e certified renewable energy certificates (RECs) that allowed more than 200 hotels in its portfolio to be powered by 100% renewable energy. Highgate is also evaluating onsite renewable energy feasibility and is conducting a comprehensive analysis of onsite solar and battery storage opportunities across its entire portfolio.

Highgate is also increasing the utilization of energy efficient technologies at its hotels, while also increasing the use of renewable energy. As part of its Environmental Brand Standards, Highgate requires hotels to install smart guestroom thermostats, 100% LED lighting, and intelligent kitchen hood fans for properties with large kitchens. As of 2021, approximately 65% of its properties already use high-efficiency lighting.

Other areas of focus in Highgate’s sustainability program include improving water management, preventing food waste, reducing landfill waste and bolstering recycling, single-use plastics elimination, responsible sourcing, supporting biodiversity projects, and implementing green construction and design practices.

The Pavilion will be located in the Triennale garden for all six months of the exhibition, is composed of three main parts:

  • A building shaped like a parallelepiped, which houses a space/workshop for events and activities, consisting of wooden structural elements and characterised by a tapestry placed on the main façade;
  • Transport crates containing installations on the themes “The Big Waste” and “Biological Science”; and
  • A structure made up of bamboo trees about 12 metres tall.

The concept that inspired the installation is that of the Noosphere, developed in the 1920s by French philosopher Edouard Le Roy, palaeontologist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin and Russian geochemist Vladimir Venadsky. At the core of the main definition of Noosphere, there is a dual perception: life on Earth is a unit that makes up a whole system known as the Biosphere; the mind or consciousness of life – the thinking layer of the Earth – makes up a discontinuous unit. It is represented by the next inevitable stage of the Earth’s evolution, which will encompass and transform the Biosphere.

Noosphere XX1 provides a model for the production of knowledge, focusing on students as a meeting point between Past, Present and Future, and inspiring new educational forms in the world of design.

The three time dimensions will be represented through different events and installations, which will vary over the course of the six months of the XXl Triennale. The opening exhibition features the following content:

  • The Past – represented by images of the city of Palmyra, chosen from the collections of Paolo Mussat Sartor;
  • The Present – represented by Nature, by the animals from the Palazzo dei Musei in Reggio Emilia, through to the Crystal Stool designed by Studio Nucleo; and
  • The Future – shown in an installation that involves the YuMi robot by ABB and 3D printed materials.

Noosphere XX1 is a project curated by Su Dan, from the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University, Italo Rota, Scientific Director of NABA and Domus Academy and Gianluigi Ricuperati, Creative Director of Domus Academy.

The Noosphere is also a metaphor for school and for the production of knowledge in an increasingly complex and interconnected world, where students will take centre stage. The Pavilion will therefore also present itself as opportunities for reflection on the contemporary school system, through a combination of different forms of education with contributions from professionals, institutions and companies.

Innovation in teaching methods and partnerships with companies and industry professionals are a fundamental and distinctive element of what NABA and Domus Academy have to offer, their aim being to enable students to take on actual projects and acquire specific skills, which will then allow them to build solid careers.

Kennedy Funding Completes $5.17 Million Financing for Historic Bahamas Property

Waterfront site was once the family compound and estate of the Parker Brothers of Monopoly fame

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., March 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ – Kennedy Funding has completed a $5.17 million loan by Grand Pointe Lender Ltd. to borrower Grand Pointe Investments, Ltd. The four-year-interest only financing is secured by four oceanfront residential parcels with five residences and additional land, altogether totaling 15.5 acres, on Man O War Cay, Sea Glass Found, Abaco, Bahamas. Each of the five residential parcels consists of a main residence and a guest cottage.

“The property has a very interesting history,” said Kevin Wolfer, president and CEO of Kennedy Funding, the Englewood, NJ-based direct private lender. “It consists of the long-time former family compound and estate of the Parker Family of Parker Games fame–Monopoly and other well-known board games.”

The Orlando, FL-based Grand Pointe Investments, headed by John C. Gray, Jr., acquired the property 10 years ago from the Parker Family and, “has made extensive improvements since,” said Wolfer. “With 15.5 acres and five private beaches on its own peninsula, this property is clearly the ‘jewel of the Abacos.’”

The borrower has been restoring the Parker Family compound and estate, and intends to retain ownership of one of the five residences while marketing the others for sale. Because of the site’s historic significance and prime location, the project has required close cooperation with the local district council and the Bahamian government.

Now known as Sea Glass Found, the $20 million project is well underway, an effort that includes restoring the site’s harbor and marina. The latter effort will allow berthing for yachts up to 140 feet in length and averaging 80-90 feet to dock safely in a protected “hurricane hole.”

The financing will be utilized by the borrower to retire $3.5 million of existing debt, and the remainder for working capital–the borrower’s other properties include two office condominiums in Lake Mary, FL, and 42 single-family lots at Stone Island, Enterprise, FL.
